More great visits with Katie. It is amazing how quickly she has responded to us. In the baby house, there are 12 total babies in her group and two caregivers at all times. All of the babies are about the same age (around 7 – 10 months). Only one of the babies cries all of the time, the others, are absolute angels (including Katie, of course)! They really have more than everything they could need, except one-on-one attention and love. The caregivers are very attentive, but they can only do so much. They work like a fine tuned machine – they bathe the babies, feed them, put them all on little potties (and tie them to sides of this enormous crib – it is not torturous, they have to tie them on so that they don’t fall over – it is a riot), let them play for awhile, put them to sleep, then start all over again in about 2-3 hours! They care a lot about the children, and that is very comforting. I know that Katie has been well taken car of for her first seven months of life, and I hope she has an easy transition to life with a couple of amateur parents like Dave and me!
The town is very busy preparing for New Year’s Eve – it is a big holiday here, like Christmas is in the US (though I don’t think it is a religious holiday). Gifts are exchanged, and (Christmas) trees are decorated. Also, it was a beautiful day – very sunny for the first time since we have arrived. The snow is quite beautiful, and certainly a change of scenery from Atlanta!
